Zindagi Migzara

All of us, at some point of time have sure stopped and exclaimed "How I wish I were young again?” Well it [the wish for youth] does not appear to be a fascination with just one particular age group. People in their twenties want to be teens and those in their thirties miss their twenties social scene and so on. Seems like everyone wants to go back a decade :) But ask a kid in school he/she on the contrary wants to be older and have a less controlled life! Phew!

Could it be that we are so busy dealing with the present that when we get a moment to reflect we think we had it better in the past? I wonder how many would agree with me that we are a distracted generation. In general our lack of appreciation for the present causes us I believe to miss a lot of moments which we should be cherishing when we look back, say a decade from now.

A frail old man got this point across to me in the book "Tuesdays with Morrie" where Mitch Albom recounts the time he spent with his dying professor who reveals some extremely simple but important facts that we need to get straight. I won't state anything further but highly recommend reading the book for yourself; it is easy to read as well.

Oh if you were wondering what the title means...I’d suggest reading "Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini :) - I know too many recommendations for a single post, but trust me its good stuff. Another moving tale about life, it’s a brilliant novel where the author has beautifully interwoven information about his homeland with the intimate narrative of the protagonist. Most people would be able to relate with a lot of the events despite the geography.

One book with the philosophies of a dying old man, while the other a haunting tale of how a young man deals with his past. One revealing how life moves on and the other enlightens on how to live life itself!
